I just thought I'd tell you guys about my power mirror update. I had a set of power mirrors that I were included with my '76 when I bought the car. They came off of a junked 80-84 Electra Park Avenue; I don't know what specific year. The same mirrors were probably used on other b-body cars as well, probably Oldsmobiles and maybe Pontiac as well. I think Cadillac mirrors say "Cadillac" on them.

I put them on to my 1976 Electra that had the standard remote wire operated mirrors. They work great and they look original, since the mirror style is the same, (chrome, not painted). The only thing that held me back was to make up a small plastic wedge to put between the door and the new mirrors, since the angled mounts are not the exact same.

The wedge ended up being 22.5 degrees and about 4 inches long. The right side needed a small hole drilled to make the mounting stud fit for the new mirror.

I'll round it down later. I'm just happy it fit.

Then you just cut out a small gasket with some gasket material and put them on and feed the wires through the doors. The power mirror control switches fit nicely into the car's existing mounting holes. There is one small change you make on the right side switch mount. On the 75 and 76 electra it is just to the right of the steering wheel, by the power antenna switch. You have to shave down a small piece of plastic that sticks out inside the switch mount for the old wire-controlled mirrors.

Just feed the wires through the doors and give the switch some fused power and a ground and you are ready to start adjusting.

The original wires were all long enough, so I didn't have to add any length to them, but they were cut when I got them, so I just used some crimp connectors.

This was a nice trouble-free project which you could probably knock out in a few hours. Getting the wires through the doors is a bit of a hassle, but that's the only real fuss I had. You'll also want to use some silicone around the new mirror on the inside of the door since the mounting brackets are not identical.

Also, the new mirrors give better visibility on the right side of the car, since it makes things smaller, which is a real big plus. If you can find a set of mirrors, you electra guys oughta try it out.

When I did a similar change to electric mirrors, I put the electric mirror top section onto the original 76 mirror base, correct appearance after
