Well after breaking the rearend at Cecil County a few weeks ago I got the 70 up and running again. I ordered all the parts I needed from a performance shop in NY and although I think I paid a little too much ; the parts were shipped right out and it's all installed now. Anyway the performance shop sent me the 3.73 ring and pinion and had the two posi carriers and the master rebuild kit sent from the manufactuer. So I got charged $364.00 each carrier and 124.00 for the rebuild kit. I thought that was fair? Then in the manufactuer's ( National Drivetrain Inc 1-800-507-GEAR ) box was a shipping list with the prices.....$314.95 and $299.95 for the 10 and 12 bolt carriers and $72.61 for the rebuild kit. I'm not complaining here I just want to help out the next guy ordering parts... I will certainly call these guys next time.
Rearend The guy who rebuilt the rear for me said that I did a real good job on this one. Check out the carnage!! I'd like to thank the NY boys for helping me get the car on the trailer.
Rearend Here's a look at all the goodies assembled. I wish all of these parts the very best... it's going to a hard life for them.....what's their life expectancy??? OK, I'm setting the over/under date of Aug. 15th at the BPG in Salem. Think I'll be running them still???
Rearend Looks nice all cleaned up. Too bad the TA differential cover did'nt make it here in time, I ordered it right after Cecil. I guess the fluid change when I do the cover can't hurt, right? The Auburn Gear literature said to use non-synthetic 80/90 weight oil. And included their own additive. Any thoughts on this?
Rearend Of course I had to take Wolverine on a test and tune run last night. It really hooks em' both good...either off the line or on a brake stand and around either corner left or right it's sideways!!! Can you see the smile on my fresh Irish face?
Alright Johnno!!!!! Glad you got everything sorted out and now you can continue to punish those tires once more!!!!!!!!! Way to go,Johnno!!! :TU: :TU: :TU: :3gears:
Johnno, Good to hear that you got everything back together and hope that you have good luck with the auburn. I had an auburn installed on a 4x4 I had and hated it from day one. Can't begin to tell you how many times it left me stuck in the mud with only one tire spinning.
Johnno, Install a line lock before you break this one too. Spend the 100.00 now, and you won't need to do this for awhile. Brakes on Burnouts will kill a rearend fast.
Next time you let CARL drive your car..............get a DEPOSIT........... just in case he breaks it on ya' !!!!!!!! * *( just kidding Carl )
Hows Johnno gonna do his patented 1/2 mile burnouts...sideways...with a linelock ??!!?? Didn't you read the above ?? He's got two other rears ready to go when he breaks this one :TU: :beer :TU: Long Live ZORRO !!! :TU: :beer :TU:
Alan, Remember what Art Houser said? Once you get those puppies a roastin, let go of the linelock and steer. He can still do his Zorro burnouts. He'll just spend less on grenaded parts ou:
Put the line lock valve on the BACK brake line, installed backwards if it's directional. Use the button to disable the back brakes, then you can do all the ZORO's you want with full control of the front brakes with your foot. :Brow:
Rick, A line lock locks pressure in the brake line it is attached to. If you attach it to the rears, you would defeat the purpose. Having the brakes on while your burning the tires(driving through the brakes) puts enormous sttress on the spider gears. That's why Johnno is destroying posi units. If you install a line lock on the front it locks the front brakes. Then you can burn the rear tires until they come off the wheels. If the posi works good and both tires are spinning good, when you let go of the button, the car will be going sideways as long as you stay in it. All you have to do is steer, and avoid hitting anything. :Brow:
Line Lock! Ok Larry, here it is and it will be on the 70 for next year! I'm thinking that if I line lock it through the gears and then let it go and come on the brakes easy I'll be able to still get the mega long burnouts.
There you go Johnno! Actually, you shouldn't have to touch the brakes at all, leave it in second gear, get em smokin, let go of the button and steer. If anyone needs one of those it's you.
