Is converting my points distributor to a Unilite worth it? I was going to buy the billet distributor, but I have three points dist. laying around that are in good condition. Hate to just leave these collect more dust.

I have a unilite in mine, just pulled the points and put it in and connected it to the old resistorwire (recommended, to prevent the unilite from frying), took under an hour.
Before, the points started floating at 5200 rpm, I now have a rock steady timing at all rpm.

I recently put in a MSD 6AL and now have trouble turning the motor off. I measured the voltage at the distributor and it says 1.4 volt, apparently thats enough to keep the unilite going.

If cost is not a worry, I would go with an MSD Billet distrubutor and one of their "boxes".

In my experiance, MSD has a much cleaner install than Mallory. I have a Comp 9000 and a Hyfire lV-A box, it works very well, but its a messy install. I have done a few MSD systems lately, and they are much cleaner. :)

BTW, my Mallory was done about 10 years ago so....things way be better now. :TU:

    Peter -

I had a problem with run-on even with a stock points distributor with the 6AL box installed. I added a resistor as described in the instructions and that took care of the problem.
