underwater show car ('71 Riv)-Katrina survivor PICS!!! For a couple of years I have been talking to Mr TEd at local shows about his custom '71 Riv. This was his dream car. The car was dismantled. All rust was cut out and replaced. The frame was treated with something (under coating?) as well was the underbody. New interio was custom made and after nearly a year of running around w/ no panels and such, they were installed last spring. The handles were shaved as well as all emblems. The fender has some lines near the front that were filled. Mr Ted sectioned out the ft. bumper in a truly precise way-not just "square" cut flat. I believ he used many peices of metal to get the proper curves. Also since he is a metal worker he dressed up the front w/ his own custom made stainless grill and made many covers for the engine bay-batt cvr., alt. bracket ,rad cvr, coils , you name it he did it. Very nice too. :TU: This engine has less than 100 miles on it since the rebuild!!! This car is painted a gorgeous Mercedes silver w/ a blk top.I don't know how wise it was, but I know he turned down over 30k for it last year. Well I ran into his son, who I did not know, at the bar down the street during darts. He overheard me telling a friend how I was trying to take apart my nailhead after Katrina to try to save it. Well to my horror it seems Mr Ted left the Riv home 'round the corner from me as he never installed the pass glass that he was waiting for. So Ted jr. says his dad is depressed about the car and wants it gone. Good thing my mom has a 20x25 carport at the farmhouse  . Gonna see how fast we can move on this 'cause it's been slapped w/ a tow sticker (it is actually on his property, not public or right-of-way or anything like that ) People are towing anything they can get a tow hook on. I can't let the sub/boat get crushed, it's just too perfect (once you get over the whole under water thing for days-thing) Will post pics after details are worked out- don't wanna jinx it. If I see it on a the back of a tow truck to be crushed I think I'll lose it. Keep your fingures crossed... :TU: :3gears:
Jason, This reminds me, about 1 month ago CNN had their online newscasts and I watched one about the number of "abandoned" cars that need to be crushed and right behind the reporter was a '73 Buick Electra 225 4 dr, turquoize with a white top and wire wheels. Hope you can rescue the riv. There is a Centurion convertible on ebay right now from Katrina and the amount of damage scares me. Rust everywhere, and the guy still wants $2500 for it.
Yeah, saw that one. I'm buying the Riv for $500.!!!!!! Waitin' right now for the call to sign the paper work. Will post pics soon.
Soooon my pets, soooon  .Gotta find the cable usb thingy?? o No: Shall I name 'er "DAS BOOT"? Seriously guys, don't know where to start but she's saved - and purty. :TU:
