Hi everybody, Under my hood is a bit of a mess, especially where I have removed the insulation. There is a lot of corrosion/rust. I started scrubbing with a wire brush which stripped the black paint away as I thought it would. I was going to use some white vinegar to eat through the rust. I was planning to get all of the rust and corrosion worked off using the above method, then spraying some rust preventer and then some stain black. Does this sound like a good plan?
Unless you want to take the hood off and sand and fully prep the bottom for paint you would be better of just hit those spots with rattle can and put the insulation back in.
Thats not too awful at all. Wire wheel on the drill for the loose stuff and then some satin black on the whole thing. Re-do the insulation. Cover everyting with old sheets before you spray. Yer done! ws
Thanks very much for the advice guys. I've checked the service manual and it seems there are just 4 bolts that require removal to separate the hood from the lifting arms. Gerry - would you recommend a particular method or is there a video I should check out? Am I right in thinking that the best method would be: Rotary brush away all the paint and rust Sand down using increasing grades Spray anti rust base Spray satin black
Ah brilliant, thanks for all of the advice. I took a rotary wire brush to some of the rust areas today.
