I had a 70 GS years ago that had a under hood light set up. It was stainless, round and about the size of the palm of my hand. It consisted of a mounting base, prongs like a charcoal canninster bracket, and the light housing was removable from the base. It was mounted on the pass inner fender. The wire was on an internal real, about 8-10 feet of wire, and had a raised glass nub on it? You wound the wire back in by spinning the glass light nub clockwise and the wire went back into the housing. I have never seen one like it since. Anyone know what that may have been? JC Witney?

Did a under hood light ever come on a 70? like this or a trunk light style?

It was available at least thru 72, still in the 72 accessory book - I have a couple NOS ones, and they sure arn;t as shiney as that ebay one, I think someone has been playing with the chrome spray paint

    not selling

one of mine is going into the Centurion this winter when I detail the engine compartment, the other will be kept for a spare or in case I get "another" project in the future. They do show up on ebay with some frequency, so keep your eyes open for them. Here you can see the one mounted in my 67.

this was a dealer item that is in the accessory books. Of course part numbers varied for different applications and years.

    More Info Please

    Thanks, I am curious:

Does anyone know if it would have been correct for a 70 GS 350, as was the application I had? I think it was more common in BPO applications, eariler years , but with dealer options, as long as one was on the shelf, it could have been installed on anything? :Do No:

Know, could a trunk light style have been installed and be correct? If these were dealer options, were they required to be in specific locations, or anywhere the delaer / customer wanted it?

    correct

one of these lights would have been perfectly correct and accepable on a 70 GS350 - although correct location is usually center of the hood or trunk lid - I suppose the dealer could stick them where they wanted and probably did. Mine all show underhood and trunk mounting locations in the directions. I know Pontiac put theirs on he inner fenders though.

    thanks

how about the smaller more common mercury switch trunk light style, would that have been used under hood, and if so, is that shown on a schematic for correct location?

    Same part ,different name.

This part was still available and my father had one installed on both his 62 Wildcat and his 81 Regal. Also found at swap meets in a Ford "Rotunda" brand parts box. Identicle item.
