I've been fighting a wheel hop problem on a `69 SS396-375hp, 4 speed Chevelle. I don't have urethane bushings in my Buick and I have no wheel hop problems at all, and my experience with urethane bushings to date has been they made the car ride so bad that the customer had me remove them and go back to rubber. I was out of options with this car so I purchased a set of upper and lower aftermarket rear control arms for it. The only thing I didn't change were the bushings in the rearend housing, which are brand new. After yesterdays test drive, about 80% or more of the wheel hop is gone so I guess today I'll put the hop stop bars on, which have urethane bushings in them. I'll keep you posted on the outcome but what I would like to say at this point is, much to my surprise, those new control arms with urethane bushings didn't seem to have hurt the ride quality one bit, and the quality of the UMI components appears to be absolutely superb. And I thought the price of $359.95 for the whole set was pretty reasonable. I bought them on ebay from Summit Racing. Free shipping was a nice bonus as well.

Put the hop stop bars on and the wheel hop is gone. The car now rides pretty bumpy in the rear but it sure is fun to do burnouts with now  Who else has a job where a customer brings in a 375hp Chevelle and authorizes you to go do burnouts with it? Life is good :)

    Umi makes various versions
    Heim joint arms
    Poly arms
    Roto/poly
    Double roto..(lowers)

I recommend anyone that needs the ear bushings replaced to replace them with umi roto ear bushings
Currie makes a johnny joint version too

Do you think they would make that much of a difference? The car rode fine until I put the hop stop bars on. It seems to me that they are the culprit. I think they are limiting the travel on the rearend, creating a bind, but they did finish getting rid of the wheel hop, so mission accomplished in a sense. I had a set of hop stops on my Buick a few years back and I don't remember that they hurt the ride that much. Of course, I have stock rubber bushings. I removed them because they didn't really help and I didn't like the way the car behaved on the street with them on.

I have the TA No Hops in my car. Didn't hurt the ride at all. I also have the Metco upper and lower control arms as well as the HR Bar.

These are Edelbrock hop stops. I didn't buy them, the owner did. How much of a difference is there between the two?

I couldn't get the Edelbrocks to fit my 8.2 rear. Ended up sending them back to Sumitt for a full refund even after I ground on them extensively. Bought the TA's and they went right on, and I transferred them easily to my 8.5 rear. The TA no hops are very high quality and they made the Edelbrocks look like garbage IMHO.

Yup, I also had to do some grinding on the Edelbrocks to get them on. They looked nice laying on the bench but I wasn't impressed with the fit. Oh well, they're on the car now. It snowed here last night and they spread some salt on the roads so I won't be messing with that car again until spring.
