As a new member, may I first pass on my thanks to Buickbonehead for pointing me in the direction of V8Buick. Our 1970 Buick Wildcat was bought by pure chance. When picking up my '67 Corvette, the guy who does the work on it had the Buick and took us for a ride in it. We both loved the car, and so began the road to restoring 'her' Buick (well I needed some excuse to buy it). The story covers about 2 years of searching for various parts we 'needed'. The first pic with the car in white, is how it was bought, and the paint was good from 100yds!! While stripping the car to decide what colour we wanted, we found the original build sheet for the car under the back seat, and decided to return it to the spec when it left the factory. The result has been a car the family loves to go out in to car shows, and days out. The Buick was featured in 'American Classic' magazine here. It is, as far as I am aware the only 1970 Wildcat in the UK.
Very Nice! I'll have to look you up next time we get over that way. My X-girlfriend is from Bristol. :beers2: Cheers, to the WOT!
Thanks, the truth is that after spending days/weeks looking for a surround I realised after looking at scores of Buicks on ebay, that none of them had a front emblem. There followed dozens of emails to salvage yards in the USA, and I finally found one good enough to be a template for $20!! It cost as much again to ship it, and my father-in-law who works on aircraft made one in resin. I was lucky to get a tri-shield badge with the car that was like new, and the two went together nicely.
You might want to talk to your father-in-law about making a few more... there's more than a couple of guys on this board who are looking for that front emblem! Car looks great by the way!
Welcome aboard Steve! Glad you found it. By the way fellow board members; Steve is an official WOT member.:TU: Where's AUSTINGTA and his 70 Cat convertible? Rick
Dad was stationed at Ramsbury, before the invasion. It's a neat place. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramsbury
MOST EXCELLENT!!!! Another WOT! Welcome to the board Steve. She's absolutely beautiful. Spent a couple of years in England myself. East Anglia. Peterborogh to be exact(Go Posh..what division are they in now?). Dad was stationed at Alconbury and I went to Molesworth Jr. High. It's a military installation again I hear. Always good to have another WOT on board. Now if Rick aka buickbonehead will give up a shirt...you'll be set. Yeah Rick I put ya on the spot...:bla: Does it have right hand drive?????
Hope this doesn't shatter your illusions about Rick, but he very kindly supplied me with FOUR yes 4 WOT shirts which are great. No it doesn't have RHD, so overtaking can be interesting if you don't have a passenger The car came from Ft.Bliss, and still has it's DMV stickers from Texas, a must to have anything connected with the USA left on the car over here. :TU:
Naw it didn't shatter my illusions of the Grandpoobah at all. I kinda expected it actually. Ft. Bliss??? Probably still has the post decal on it as well.
I saw another 1970 model year 2 drs Wildcat Custom at Notts Americana back in 1996, in red paint with a white vinyl roof. Have to search for them, but I know for sure that I have a few old school paper photos of this car. Which # issue of CA Magazine was your Wildcat in ?
