u-joint change

    jupp..what is the best way to do it
    the 3d is bad on my 66 electra..should I only loosen the u-clams and try to change it when its still on the car or remowne whole driveshaft?or can it be splitted in half..have never had this problem on a buick before...and still havent fibd a 66 book

    If you are changing the u-joint I would the whole shaft should come out. Pretty tight to even attempt a though t of trying that.

    If you have a good size vise you should have no trouble - Can you get a u-joint for the 66 over there? Jim

    ha..the problem now is that I had the wrong size
    got a precision 534g....its 93mm over all..the one on the car is 91 mm
    bearing cap size is 1 1/8
    inside were the c-clip is 2 9/16
    how many sizes is it...nos greasable with c -clip
    grrrrrrrrrrrr

    Boy that seems SO close are you sure the new one does not have grease preventing it to be collapsed to the correct measurement? ALso make sure a neddle bearing did not dis lodge in the cup preventing the cup from full insertion. 2 mm is NOT MUCH Measure the cross shaft with out the cups on and see how they compare. Jim

    just did it...didt even remove the shaft from the car....lucky me the grease hole was empty at work..so it was quite easy..took 45 minutes..looks like it was the first time on this change......s
