Types I and II Interior Rear Coutesy Light Lens

I see that in 70 two different courtesy light (opera light lens) were offerred for all series from Skylarks to Rivs. Type I has the Buick Tri Shield embossed in the plastic while Tpe II has concentric rings. Type I was also used for Buick Boats in 69. Does anyone own an A body that has the Type I lens in the rear sail panel bezels?

Good question Jim! Type I must have been used pretty early. My 70 GS was built in December (Flint Car) and has the concentric ring style. The tri-sheild ones are cooler looking though IMHO.

Duane proabably has an idea on timing for these.

    Regards,

There may have been some variation. I found a set on a later car. Those were really a nice design with the tri shield.

Do you know for sure that yours were ever changed along the way? They are easy to break as are the bulbs and the bezels during a bulb change.

    Jim,

Before the board crashed, there was a good thread about these lenses. Duane had posted information about them. Hopefully he will repost the information.

There's a photo of them in this thread.

    Guys,
Richard Lasseter asked me to do a writeup about this, so if any of you guys are also members of the GSCA, I included info about the lenses in an article I wrote for the last GSX-tra. I talked about the time frame when the early/late 70 parts changed over.

Basically the 70 cars all had the early parts up thru the 4th week of November 1969, then there was a blending of early/late parts, and by the 2nd week of January the cars all came with the later parts.

Actually there were 2 types of each, 1 with 3 tabs, and the other with 4 tabs. The A-bodies used the 4-tab varieties, so be careful what you buy.

PS. Why do you guys figure I know all this stuff.

    George,
The real reason I know so much about parts is because none of my cars are together yet, I only know them as parts. That is all except the X-Camino.
