Not to stray too far off topic, but does anyone out there in Buickland have any forged turbo pistons for the standard production Buick 4.1 (252) engine for sale? Prefer to use stock connecting rods. Thanks.

forged for that bore size will probably have to be custom made... as far as i know the only ones produced for the 4.1 are either cast or hyperutectic

How well I know. I just thought I would inquire if anyone on this board may have forged turbo pistons for a 4.1 they no longer needed.

Mine are custom, Diamond has the design in stock though they have to custom make them. Most of the surplus 4.1 pistons require wierd length rods from the Stage racing motors. Try www.turbobuick.com for some pistons, someone might have a set of rods and pistons for sale.

Tom, I built up a '79 Turbo Regal back in 1986. It was based on the stock setup, but did have quite a few upgrades....forged TRW pistons, big-valve heads, Erson cam, '83 tubular exhaust manifolds, and 3.42 GN rear. The car was a blast to drive, and did manage a best of 14.1 at 98 mph.....so they can be made to run well. It surprised alot of Corvette and Mustang GT owners 'back in the day' :bglasses:

Stock turbo was set for around 9 psi boost. I was running 13-15 on the street with the help of a water-injection setup to help surpress detonation.
Detonation was a problem, especially in high gear.... that eventually led to a sunken valve seat and deformed pistons.

I will be building the car up again...someday soon....albeit a milder version.
I always wanted to convert to a blow-thru system so I could incorporate an intercooler. And maybe some nitrous for a bit more of an intercooler effect. And maybe it won't be so mild afterall! :bglasses:

It would be an interesting swap for you. I would recommend an induction setup other than the stock 78-83.
Oh, and you want at least a '79-up. they have the 'tall-port' heads.

Do you have a write up about your swap?? If not could you post a thread about it if you have time? Sean
