Im in the process of removing the 350 trans. from my 71 GS 350
This all started with my track performance going from a best of 13.65 (don't know now if it was my best) to the low 14's
Yes I did change from the Stage 1 intake to the SP3, but it started slowing down to the 14's even with the Stage 1 intake.
After a lot (13 pages) of ideas and thoughts, No Lift suggested I look at the trans. for the loss of ET. and MPH.
After he mentioned the trans. I started thinking "this thing HAS been doing weird stuff" such as:
At the track, I leave the selector in 2nd at the tree, let it autoshift from 1 to 2 (gov. set to upshift at 5900/6000rpm) then manual shift to third.
When I would try manual shifting all the way, 1, 2, 3, on the 2 to 3 shift it would go into third, then back to second, and back into third. I figured "it doesn't like that" so back to my original routine.
This following scenario happened once, I got off the highway, stop at red light, light goes green, I go, then plank it, it downshifts to first, the revs climb to 6 grand like I was going down the track, but NOT much acceleration, its all rpm. I thought "that's bizzare"
On prepping to pull the trans. I noticed the detent cable casing is pulled out of the metal sleeve that bolts to the top of the trans. case. The actual cable was still attached to the wire that protrudes from the top of the trans. case. not sure if that would make a difference or not.
I'd like to try and repair (re insert, JB Weld, re-crimp it) the cable as I haven't found an EXACT replacement online. Is one even available anymore?
