Since the original vehicle was a radio delete, there may be some problems with the original radio as well. This is due to the manufacturer, (GM) also deleting some of the noise suppression equipment on the car, making the original replacement possibly noisy, either from then alternator or the ignition, or some of the switch gear, including turn signals, etc. I strongly suggest the use of an aftermarket unit, from a reputable source, like Pioneer, Alpine, etc, as they will likely utilize state of the art noise suppression technology, allowing the addition of additional equipment as amplifiers, etc. Also, the aftermarket units will sound better since the factory units had limited frequency response and fidelity, for two reasons. One, most of the programming at this time was AM, with limited FM programming, making the frequency response academic. Second, the factory, like anyone else, was into profit, making the radio less than state of the art. One last thing to consider is the changes in media. With the advent of digital technology, the advancements in fidelity will make the repro a compromise at best. Few if any individuals will criticise the choice of an aftermarket system, and the entertainment value will more than offset the criticism. Ray

I agree with Ray. An aftermarket unit is what you need. I have a Sony Xplode AM/FM/CD head unit that I installed in a box, and bolted to the floor under the drivers seat. I was able to get a WIRED remote, that I hid in the console compartment. In the dash is the original AM radio. The Sony puts out 23 watts RMS X 4, and sounds great. I used 2- 3 1/2" high efficiency speakers with bass blockers in the front, and 2 6 X 9" high efficiency speakers in the rear.
