Well, my newly rebuilt 350 with T/A intake, Edelbrock Carb and RV cam is complete and running.

Problem is, it won't stay running unless it's at Hi RPM. Once it's warmed up, it will run at maybe >1000 RPM in park and then will barely stay running in drive. I think it smells rich but I'm not sure.

I think timing is right, but it's hard to set it when I can't get the engine down to idle speed long enough to check it.

Looking for suggestions on how to get the timing right and what to adjust on the carb when it really isn't running well enough to adjust anything...

It does sound GREAT when it is running, though !!

With a performance cam it is not unusual to have to run idle speed at 1000 rpm.
That's where I have mine at. So make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks,
disconnect and plug the dist vacuum advance and check the timing.
I would suggest initial try at 10 deg btc.
On the carb I think I would run the idle mixture screws all the way in then
back them 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 turns and go from there.
Also make sure you choke plate is all the way open when warmed up.
Also double check your points gap or with dwell meter if you have one.
Should run good when everything is dialed in. Good luck.

Thanks for the info... Before reading this I tweaked the timing and it has about 8deg advance at idle. I got the idle down but don't know exactly how low. Still smells rich but not as bad as last night. It runs, doesn't stall but the RPM's are not very stable. Still has a long crank to start but it's getting there !!

May rebuild the carb to see if that helps... May just drive it for a little while, we'll see.
    :)
