I bought this set of sport mirrors for my 72 Skylark a number of years ago but sold the car before getting around to installing them. Now I want to sell them, but I'm not sure what they came from. I was told they were correct for 70-72 Buick, but I held one in the approximate position on the door of my 71 GS and as the photo shows it's not perfectly parallel with the ground although it's a little hard to know without actually screwing it down. The numbers inside the housings are 52811 and 52821. The etching on one glass is 9-DMI-7 and the other is 7-DMI-9. I looked at Duane Heckman's Buick Performance Club article, but I didn't understand if the 29853 and 29854 numbers were for all mirrors of those years, or for individual mirrors.

Dennis, All the part numbers I have listed in my article are the correct ones for the 70-72 Buick Skylark Gran Sports, and are the only ones that are correct. Your mirrors were built later, and have different casting numbers, so they are not the correct ones for those cars. Duane PS. I did the article so people could ID the correct mirrors. I did this as a means of self preservation, because I was tired of people buying my mirror gaskets and finding out they would not fit on the "wrong" mirrors. Once the article came out it pretty much squashed this problem.
Thanks, Duane. That pretty much answers my question. Is there any way to tell from my casting numbers what those mirrors came from? I'd like to sell them, but that's pretty hard without being able to tell somebody what they fit.
Here is another article on it - from Buick performance club http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/SportMirrors.htm
That's my same article, with the mirrors on the X-Camino. Dennis, I remember having a set of those mirrors in my parts pile. I don't know what they were off, but if memory serves me right I remember the base being a little longer (front to back) and a little taller. Also, the mirror and upper housing was a little larger then the 70-72 mirrors. It almost looked like you grabbed the upper mirror housing and pulled it away from the car a little further, so it stuck out a bit more, and the mirror glass followed the same contour. Again if memory serves me right, they do not look too different from the right ones, and if you made/found the right gasket they would work for a driver. I don't think the bases were so tall as to look bad, but I would check that before selling them. That's the best I can do. Duane
