I just got a '72 Centurion 'vert....it's been sitting for last six years (fortunately inside a garage !). Motor has about 130k miles on it, and has about 100psi compression in each cylinder....

I put a full tune up kit into it (plugs, wires, new rotor cap, points and condensor), but I'm not getting spark....I happened to notice that the coil was broken, so I replaced the coil with a new one as well....coil IS getting juice (12 volts). Still no spark....getting a bit frustrated....

Any ideas out there about something else to check ?? I don't really wanna upgrade to HEI just yet (although if that seems like the best option here, I'd consider it....)

    Thanks in advance, :beer

    Welcome

It is me again. I just gave Smartin a heads up on your situation. So he may be contacting as he is very diligent.

Do you have the Parade, hard shell, boot on that vert? Tell me about it.

I see you are the second owner and so am I. It is the ultimate in getting a used car since only one other person owned it.

Just the welcome I forgot. Later jd3.

first thing you might check is if the distributor is actually spinning. take the cap off and crank the engine and see if the rotor is turning. if thats ok then next check your dwell it should be 30-32 degrees. you will need a dwell meter to check this. also make sure the wire that goes from the distributor to the negative side of the coil is not cracked or broken and grounding out somewhere this will also cause a no spark situation. It Is Alive !

OK: finally double checked connections on everything, and one of the wires to the coil was a little loose... and this time she fired right up !! Wahoo, I'm in business !!

Now I've noticed that my radiator is leaking a little from the bottom  ....so, before I start letting it idle and do everything, may as well take care of that....also started working on the paint and chrome...the chrome (especially) is cleaning up NICE ! This is gonna be fun !!

Thanks to you guys for responding ! Will post pics soon ! :3gears:
