Hi Guys: Just installed a new trunk weatherstrip seal on my 71' GS.
I purchased a new seal from Metro-Molded. They make the "Supersoft"
sponge type seal. After properly installing it there is no way I can get the trunk closed. I realize the seal will probably flatten out over time, but this ridiculus. (spelling) Anybody ever have the same problem. Is there another brand I should try ?

    Thanks for you help.

Got a picture of it to see if you installed it correctly? Mine was easy to install and the trunk was hard to close for a month or so, but then "settled" down.

Gary: 100% sure its installed correctly. matched it to one of my original other cars. What brand did you get or where did you get it from.
    Thanks,

I know that SOMEBODY was making the replacement seal, and it was called a "LATEX" seal, and couldn't be made in the USA anymore, so it was (drum roll of death:rolleyes: ) imported. Dunno if it was actually better, but it was SUPPOSED to be correct.

  6. I had exactly the same problem with a Steele Rubber seal on my 71 Riviera, bought another brand and it fitted perfect.

Ahh the joys of reproduction parts.

All reproduction parts will drive you nuts making them fit and function correctly!

    Ask me how I know:rolleyes:

FWIW - you could slightly raise the trunk lock receptacle that's bolted to the trunk floor box. This is in case you have to slam the trunk ridiculously hard right now.

Make it so you don't have to slam it as hard....live with it like that for awhile and then go back later and lower the receptacle some, etc, etc.
