    Hello
my 73 electra is starting to get some surface rust on the trunk... also the roof cover was removed so water doesnt collect under it...
i was wondering what i should do about this?
i have a few cans of flat black and gloss black paint lying around so should i sand these areas down and paint over them? i just need them to make it through this winter... my car has NO OTHER RUST! i dont want this winter to turn it into a canser victim...
    thanks!

    No More Rusty Trunk

just this weekend i had the same problem... i used a product called POR15. the small kit is only 17. bucks but here's what i suggest.

Purchase some degresser... any will do. clean the trunk and make sure its dry when youre done. use the metal ready product to kill the rust and coat it with the rust sealant. then you can user some spatter spray paint to make it original. man this will have your trunk like a new bently. :TU:

here are some before pics of my trunk... i will send some after renovation pics later

Anybody know if phosphoric acid will help my trunk rust problem? :(

Should I use phosphoric acid to take care of the metal that is left until I can repair it? :Do No: By the way, this is the trunk of my 62 Electra just behind the left rear wheelwell...the drivers side is pretty much the same. :ball:

Wire brush on a drill motor to remove all loose rust. Acid wash and then make a decision on how to repair the area. I usually use paperboard (cereal box material or the backing to a pad of paper) to make a template of the patch needed. Fabricate the metal patch and you can weld it in place.

The problem I see is that right below the hole is a body mount. In fact, the blank round thing you can see peeking through the hole is a rubber body mount bushing! I wonder if that section of the trunk floor is reproduced? The other problem is that I don't have a welder yet, but I hopefully will be able to fix that problem soon.
