I'm getting ready to replace the center section of my 1970 skylark trunk. what is the preferred method of joining the sections, butt or lap weld ? my section of rot is only 5-6 wide area near the trunk striker, tank support brackets are fine. should the repair seam be on top of the tank brackets or just take out what is needed ? are the replacement panels created equal ? any recommendations ? cheers Jeff
Just section out the rusted/bad area and then use the old piece as a template to make a tight fitting piece. I use lap welds and you will be fine..see my trunk floor replacement article for more info: http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/TrunkPan.htm
