Overpriced trunk carpeting material.....another reason why CARS is a rip off About 2 years ago I purchased enough felt trunk lining material to use in the trunk of my Riv. I paid $20 PER YARD for it, and it is only 54" wide......it was not enough material to cover all the way over the axle hump, but heck, I figured after spending over $80 for the stuff for 3 yards including shipping I'd have to just be happy with it. Well, I decided to do it correctly this time and I was surprised to find that JC Whitney has the stuff for $19.95 PER ROLL........it is much cheaper, 54" wide and nearly 10 feet long!! Only 20 bucks for the same stuff! I opted for the 3 day shipping and it all came to only $31.93! :Brow: This medium gray material is catalog #196517, you can also get light gray and black for the same price. I'll be at the Nationals this summer in Batavia, and I'll be sure to stop by their place and tell them to their faces what theives they really are.
they won't care they will just shrug their shoulders and make a snide comment when you walk away - trust me on this one
Same thing happened to me with the pink paint. The engine enamel I bought was in the quart can for a spray gun. They seem to have a slight attitude when you talk to them. Parts are rediculously overpriced. Chris
Bet your local fabric store would have carried it, and charged you even less! Also a good source for vinyl in basic colors, foam, and jute backing materials.... CARS does have some good products that are hard to find elsewhere. But I try to only buy from them at the shows they attend, NOT mail order..... Engine paint.....I've used the Bill Hirsch Buick red.....Spent the $$ for what I thought was a quality product.....it comes out rather purple. Now I use auto-body grade urethane mixed for a '66 Buick... code R , Flame red. I can use it on my doorjambs AND my engine
CARS is what I call a "neccessary evil". For some items they're the only game in town. Sometimes you just have to deal with them.
I just did a mail-order with them that comes in Thursday. I ordered a Tranny Mount, and driveshaft center support. They were real nice on the telephone, and even called me back to let me know when they shipped my items, and when I would recieve them.
Well I just ordered 2 rad support bolt kits from them and got an email that they were shipped same day as I ordered! We've all had issues will all the Buick vendors out there, and always will, cause Buicks are all that they are in business for! For the most part, I will agree, if you can do the deal in person, it is usually for the better. As far as Buick engine paint, I was informed last weekend that the Krylon 2114 Buick Engine Red is still available, if you ask your local parts store to get it! Found it Here If you use it though, it is recommended that you put a coat of Krylon primer on first, especially on bare metal like valve covers and actually even the block, as it seems to hold up longer, been there, done it. Found some 2114 in the basement, but my race car block is painted black! But the next project GSX will be BUICK RED!
I bought the trunk carpet from JC many years back for my brother's 66 Riv. For some reason, I don't look in their catalog now for resto. items. I need to get out of that bad habit and enjoy their prices when I can. I did notice last year that Cars Buick red sucks. Their green is not too bad. Glad to hear some other paints I can use in the future. Is it just me, or do the men at Cars piss you off every time you talk to them on the phone? I try to get someone else to call so I am not pissed the rest of the day. Same goes with The Parts Place. There is one guy on the phone there that makes the hair on my neck raise.
