The original trunk lid on my 1972 Skylark convertible fits perfectly, but has some damage. I tried to replace it with a perfect trunk lid (from a 1970 Skylark sedan) but can't get this new lid aligned. Specifically, it is higher at the passenger's side front corner, just above where it attaches to the trunk hinge. All other alignment points are perfect, i.e. even, parallel gaps, flush with fenders and fender extensions. I don't know how to lower the front right side of the trunk lid. Any one know how to fix this problem?

I beieve the 4 door sedan may have a different trunk lid but not 100% sure.

You can put shims under the hinge to lower the trunk lid.

you possibly can use a rubber mallet to do minor adjustments from underneath when its open or shims as said before.

I finally got the trunk lid aligned.

To lower the forward edge/corners of the trunk lid, I installed a large shim (1/16") under the rearward hinge bolt (closest to the bumper) of each hinge, which lowered the front of the trunk. Tighten the rearward hinge bolt first (see Fisher Body Manual).

Then, on the passenger's side, there was no longer enough clearance between the trunk lid and body to open the trunk. To get clearance, I then added another large shim under both bolts on the passenger side hinge.

Now the fit is perfect in every way, EXCEPT the forward edge/corners of the trunk are 1/8" above flush with the quarter panels. I'll try adding a small (1/32") shim to the rearward bolt of each hinge to see if I can get this perfect. Stay tuned.
