Everyone; I'n sure this has been disuussed before. for our 70-72's. Are the upper and lower trunk latches supposed to be Gold cad or Silver Cad plated?
Iv'e read that possibly they could have been painted body color or even
have trunk splatter paint on them. Maybe Duane could pipe in ?
    Thanks for your help.

Hi Ken, My 72 flint build had splatter on the lower and the upper was the color of the car. I believe they painted the deck lid with the latch in it.:Smarty: I am still planning on stopping by to see your car one of these day.

Can we assume this is not a remote latch?

I know Ken's car is very bare bones so I guess it is safe to assume that Jim.

Jim: Yes my car is very bare bones. Just wanting to know what color of plating ( gold or silver) was on them before all of the over spray etc. I seen your two cars during restoration at JW's shop. How did he do your latch's ?

    Thanks, Ken

    Ken,
Originally it was exactly like Chuck said "My 72 flint build had splatter on the lower and the upper was the color of the car."

They painted the deck lid with the latch in it and after painted, the lock assembly and clip were installed.

Anything else is incorrect, although there was a range of how much overspray you can get on the bottom latch.

The doors were painted on the car too, after they were fitted. So the bolts and striker/latch assemblies would also be body color.

PS. To answer your question exactly "Just wanting to know what color of plating ( gold or silver) was on them before all of the over spray etc." the latch in the trunk lid was bare metal and the receiver was galvanized. Of course it doesn't matter what they were originally because they were painted as described above, so the original finishes were covered up. But if you want to spend the money to galvanize the receiver before you paint it, then have at it.

Duane: Thanks for the reply. I was also asking if the factory "Plated" the latch's with a specific plating ( gold or silver) before they were assembled
on the car. I have two bottom latch's, one has a gold cad color plating and the other has a silver Cad plating. Just was wondering which one was correct.

    Thanks again, Ken

I have only seen galvanized pieces on the original cars we have taken apart. Of course that is not to say that is the way all of them came.

Again it doesn't matter because it gets painted.
