Don't know if ya'll can see this corner, but the rot is pretty bad up next to the inner wheel well, and trunk pan. I think I'll replace the pan, and cut these pieces out and patch them in too. How does that sound?

If you read the description of the part its only the center section. There are 3 pcs floor sections and this is the center of those pieces. Usually more rust on the 2 outside pieces

Mine is rusted side to side, and on up the inner well on the driver side.

Let me ask ya'll this. Am I better off cutting the one out of the 68 parts car I have, that appears to be in pretty good shape, or should I save up and get a new piece, or pieces? The new stuff doesn't cost a whole lot, and I am a little concerned that I might run in to a surprise on that 68. Every other parts car I have, even the rust free ones, had trunk floor rot.

Please let me know what you guys think.

My rust is in the center of the trunk pan... the $70 center section looks like it will cover it! (lucky me)

Mark, couldn't you cut the one out of the parts car and decide from there? If it is all rusty....toss it, if it isn't you saved a few hundred.:dollar:

Well, if you can use the complete section from the '68 without separating them (trunk floor, frame braces and tank braces), then there would be less grinding and welding. But I guess that you have to install the big piece from underneath, and it is quite a big and heavy piece, you will need an extra pair of hands.
Is the body off the frame?
And as pointed out before, its not a perfect fit in the area above the rear axle.

On the other hand, if your frame and tank braces are reusable and you proceed like Duane showed, then I would use repro one-piece or maybe three-piece set to avoid the tediuos work to remove the braces from the floor pan.
The reason for me to choose the three-piece set over the one-piece was related to shipping cost and the small pieces was also easier to handle by myself.

    Just thinking out loud...

Another thing nobody has mentioned. If you care about correctness, 68-72 does NOT have the same ribbing or indentations you see on the floor itself. Look closely you will see what i mean. 68 is different than 69 and 70-72 is different as well. Never mind what has been mentioned on the differences over the axle portion or at the tail. In fact even the three piece floor kits are made to these differences(More than one style available) , so know what you are buying or you may end up with a 70 trunk floor in your 68 or vise versa. It is a fact the suppliers of these parts are not aware of the differences in there own parts so get a picture of what they are selling. You can go on line to look at the 68-72 chevelle one piece floors and you will see the difference in the ribs year to year. I have seen Many show cars that have the wrong year floor in them. They had no idea.

I would think with all the drilling of the spot welds out of the old piece after you even get it out of the car would not be worth the savings. But it is your time and drill bits. There is a lot of good advice and different ways to take care of your trunk. It saves you a lot of work if you can save your braces. If not make sure you take some good measurements.

I am not real concerned with 100% correctness. The braces are good in my convertible. Body is still on the frame. I have been looking at this, and still not sure. If I can find a good deal on a new trunk floor, I may go that way. Won't hurt to try to cut the one out of the 68 though for experience. After I get it out, I might figure out how it will work.

This is all new to me, but I am determined to learn.

Yep you're right, I had to look around at several sites searching for for a good match for my '70. The Sherman Taiwan made 3-piece set turned out to be best choice for me, at least correct ribbing in the outer sides, only a minor difference in rib width on the center piece.
