    Hi guys,
as my 73 Buick did not have any cardboards in the trunk anymore (and no trunk carpet), I am still searching for a solution. As usually all scrap cars do not have any useable parts here, I am thinking about buying this set here:

As it is quiet expensive I would like to get some feedback from you... does anyone know this kit ? How is the quality ? Does anyone know this company ?

    Thanks for every feedback,

    Steffen

Steffen. If I am not mistaken wasn't there 2 pieces that cover the back edge of the trunk also ? This is the area where the latch assy. is .

I have never seen another Electra here in Germany, so I only know some pictures.
I also believe, that there should be another piece on the rear trunk edge... another reason, why I am not so convinced about this kit, too.

If I would have some used parts (also in bad condition), I would use them as a draft for my own homemade reproduction... but it seems that these are difficult to get somewhere...

My advise would be to contact "Cars" in New Jersey. They sell all types of trunk mat/trunk divider kits for Buicks.

Well.. I have ordered from them a few parts before.
Unfortunately, they dont got any trunk parts for the 73s (or similar series) today.

I just sent them an inquiery for this.. but dont really believe, that they could help here..

Well, this is the problem: I don't recall ever seeing cardboard inserts in any big Buicks until some company started marketing them in the late 90s. Out of the 12 mid-seventies LeSabres, Centurions and Electras I had, not a one had a cardboard set in it. Admittedly, I was the second or third owner in each case, I never bought one new. So you might be chasing a phantom here.

So did those cars have cardboard kits? I really don't know, but I really don't think they ever did.

I'm sure someone is going to come on and set the record straight; - so did they or didn't they make cardboard trunk liners in the mid-seventies?

I have the remnants of the cardboard liner in my 67 Electra convertible... it's pretty fragile so I believe it is original to the car. The only pieces left on mine are the linings on the inside of the quarter panels, but it is clear to me there was provision for at least the piece running along the inside of the tail lights. The CARS set includes pieces that go around the hinges and the top well. I ordered it once, but the price to ship ended up being $150 as they were going to build a wood crate around it. Thankfully they called me first as I ended up cancelling the order.

Steffen. They did have cardboard liners from the factory. There is 1 I know of in a junk yard that the trunk was closed when I saw it 2 weeks ago. I will be back there in the next 2 weeks. I will look for you.

My 1975 Blue Lesabre sedan had 3 sets of trunk cardboards, there are the ones that cover the taillights at the back (reproduced and available on ebay for $90.00),
the ones that go around the base of the hinges and the ones that lie on the trunk floor and cover the space where the rear quarters are, these last 2 are not reproduced to my knowledge

    Thanks for the clarification.

I seem to recall the cardboards around the hinges and the tail lights, but only on an Electra I had. Unlike my 66 Electra, which has a custom fitted set from CARS, there were none as far as I remember on the fenders or into the back deck or back seat on any others. I ripped the set out of the Electra (young, foolish and tired of the things getting in the way as they fell apart).

On some of my Buicks from that period, the only thing in the fender areas were rags, which were stuffed in to prevent dust from coming through the ever-widening holes.
