I just obtained a `70 Skylark. It appears to be a 455 stage 1 GSX. I`m sure it`s a clone, but how can I de-code it? It`s a "project" car. I think it was cloned years and years ago. I`m thinking it is for sure a GS, but not sure of the Stage1. Don`t think it is a GSX at all. This car has all the right parts, 455 engine, correct badges, GSX spoiler and decals...etc.. I`m planning on selling this car sometime in the future and just needed to know how to decode the car. I do not want to mis-represent it, nor do I want to sell it short in case it is legit. Can you guys give me some info here? THANKS!!!!!
Post the info that's on the firewall tag and the folks here will most likely tell you nearly everything about the car.
I used the VIN decoder and found out this: My VIN: 446370H137001 Cowl Tag Reads: ST70 44637FL1 051625BDY TR 185 75 A PNT 09D Can someone tell me what this means? Thanks a bunch!
Nope, not a GSX for sure but is at least a Big Block Buick GS. 4=Buick Motor Division 46=GS 455 37=2dr Hardtop 0=1970 model year H=Flint,MI final assembly 137001=sequential production number. Trim Tag: ST70=Style (1970) 44637FL1=Buick GS 455 Hardtop, Flint 051625=Fisher Body number TR185=Pearl White Bucket interior (TR=Trim or interior type and color) 75=lower body color (Fire Red) (PNT=Paint and/or top color) A=upper body color (White vinyl top) 09D=Body built 4th week of September, 1969. Could be a Stage 1 but would need to see some other things to know for sure. The Sloan Museum will have the information on the original equipment for the car. See http://www.sloanmuseum.com/ for further information on how to document the car.
