In the ebay ad he says there were only two triple black Stage 1 convertibles made. Counting his, I know of three. Somebody on this site has one (auto) and I went to the same high school with a guy that ordered one new, but his is a 4 speed. I haven't talked to him in awhile, but back in the 90's, I know he still had it.

This would still be way overpriced when these cars were demanding a premium.

That is probably close to being in the ballpark of what it sold for the first time last year I think.....

No reason to speculate . No doubt someone trying to sell a Black car started that Rumor . According to car reports 26 BB Black convertibles were produced at flint .

dl...but maybe only a couple of the black ones were triple black ? maybe most had white interior and/or white top ?

Ford produced a trillion mustangs and according to marti they are all 1 of 1. I have to laugh ..

Fact is we can't break down anymore then 26. Which is only the 10-17th rarest color depending on the SCO's . I have no use for such a car in the South . Funny that the majority of these black conv seem to have come out of Florida .. How uncomfortable would that have been ?

$65k car, needing a resto that would cost how much more at a top notch shop? $50 - $75K more?

There is absolutely no documentation of the black exterior/interior/top/STG 1 convert cars.

I had thought the number of 4467 black converts was 19... but we will go with 26..

roughly 20% of the entire convert run was an A1 car (STG 1)

    20% of 26 is about 5 cars..

Then of those 5, how many had and unusual color combo, that being all black. I would imagine not many.. a couple? How many survived 40+ years? Again, not many.

No way to document the answer fully, but these are best guesses.. apparently there is at least one other, from the claims here, but then again, claims are just that, wholesale car orders can be faked, and I didn't see the trim tag on that car pictured. Lots of cars get repainted black.

Trim tags are reproduced, but it's unlikely that someone would spend a couple hundred bucks, and then age the tag properly, for that particular car. I would like to see a picture of it.

All that being said, considering the condition of that car, I would be inclined to believe it is a triple black STG 1 convert. I would also be inclined to believe it does not have the numbers matching motor in it, which diminishes it's value greatly. Note the sellers says "rebuilt 455 and original trans".

Whoever said "one too many zeros" might be about right. Once the numbers drivetrain stuff is gone, most collectors and many enthusiasts are no longer interested in it.

    Jim,

I believe the chart above is supposed to represent only Stage 1 converts (232), so your first break down wouldn't apply.

If you were trying to ascertain autos vs. manual trannys, autos were 70.7% of the total, x 26 would equal 18. Those would be a mix of different interior and top colors, and I don't know what the mix would be.

Isn't that true of everything? The BJ auction was an eye opener for me Stage 1 hardtop 58K, GSX stg 1 75k Looks like the economy is hitting our beloved Buicks harder than some others.

I'll disagree a little bit on this. The 71 was one of the nicer cars of the auction. But, a gold/saddle 71 with no docs ? With fees and transport you're low 60's. Raise your hand if you're ready to spend that. I venture to say no one on this forum would which is why it was at auction. Same with X you're mid 80's with fees and transport. Some of the plaques were from 2002, so Assume the resto was at least 11 years old ?
From what I saw in person prices are re- bounding . There were only about 2 cars that I would have considered to be a steal.

I guess he's trying to say 232/1126 of Flint conv were stg1. Closer to 30%. Not sure how that breaks down across the line. Perhaps 24/26 blk were stage 1 and 120/129 Dip Blue were 455. It's all semantics cause we will never know .
