i have a 70 skylark with a 350/350 that i am changing to a 455/400. i am going with the TCI TH-400 offered by Jegs. Is this a good choice? What TH-400 tail length do i need to get in order to have it hook up to my existing driveshaft.? (for that matter, will it hook up to my existing driveshaft at all?) if not, where can i get a new one? should i get a new one anywaysto handle the upgrade in power? really lost here.....:Do No:

The TCI trans is a good one, just make sure you get the one that bolts up to a Buick-Olds-Pontiac, not the Chevy bolt pattern. I believe the short shaft 400 is 6" tailshft housing. You will probably require a different length driveshaft, and the front yoke will be different from the 350 yoke. I would just have a new one made, you're going to need it anyway. Just look up driveshafts in the yellow pages for a local shop.

OK. thanks a lot. do you know if the TCI will have the hookup for a fixed yolk or a slip yolk? should i try to convert to a fixed yolk?

Some 4x4 transfer cases, Dana 300 for instance, have 'fixed-yoke' output.
