I am trusting the many Buick fans here to help me with some advice reguarding the pairing of a particular engine and transmission. I am trying to mount a chevy 700r4 short tail to a '72 Buick 350 and install the pairing into an '84 cutlass supreme coupe. The motor is actually installed in the car and was mated to the original transmission in the car, an oldsmobile 350 turbo. What should I change to make the transmission mount up and function properly? I was not using the computer in the cutlass before and I don't want to use the computer after the switch. Since a Cutlass and a Regal are the same car chassis wise, I am hoping that someone here performed a similar type of pairing and can shed some knowledge and share some experience with me.

Also, I happen to have a quadra-jet 1903 on the motor and I am wandering should I change the fuel pump on the car? The original motor in the car, by the way, was a olds 350 disel. I am having a little fuel mixture problems. No matter how I adjust, I am running rich. what should I do to solve this problem.

Your better off installing the 2004R in it, That trans has the "BOP" plus the Chevy pattern on the bellhousing. Mark

If you have to use the 700R4, then you will need an adapter plate to mount it to your 350.

A 200R4 would be an easier swap...would bolt right up.

Dont waste your time with the 700r4, total nightmare. Much more involved than just an engine/tranny adaptor plate.

Oh, wait... I just thought of something.
Your car was originally equiped with the 'olds diesel engine???

If I'm not mistaken, the diesel engine was factory equiped with a 700r4 that used an [ultra rare] BOP bellhousing pattern... If this is true, then your car may already have all the nessecary "hook-ups" to [re] install the 700 tranny back into it.... Especially if you still have the original BOP 700r4.

Tho I have little knowledge about using the diesel tranny behind a gas engine. If this is your situation, then a 700 swap MAY be a worthwile consideration... And I stress MAY.

Otherwise, the 200r4 is a much better way to go. Check out www.buickperformance.com
Click "enter" at the bottom of the page, then scroll down to "installing a 200r4".

While this page deals with installing the 200 into an "A-body", all of the info is still usefull as it's an upgrade from a T-350 tranny.... Basically what your dealing with now.

    Good luck!
