Transmission first timer

  1. Ok ive got a usable core and im going to jump into rebuilding my first transmission.

ive got the whole book thing and it seems pretty straight foward. the only issue im having is the bearing driver. i was told that there is pretty much no other option other than using this tool.

but my issue is, i dont wanna buy a $130 tool that i will only use once. is there a place to rent one and if not should i buy the tool that has all the different sizes on two different dies?

Any help you guys can give me is greatly appreciated! Also Tips are VERY welcome. i know i could just have someone do it for me but i really like doing things myself.

TexasT Texas, where are you from

    I'm with you

I'd just break down and buy the tool. I always seem to be able to find other uses for those one time use tools. Check out ebay for a used one. You might try some pawn shops. You can always sell it to recoup some of your money after you're done with it.

I am also contemplating a first try at rebuilding. I bought the ATSM manual and a really nice howto book from CK transmissions. I haven't started buying the tools yet but that's next after I finish reading the book.

    Good Luck

  3. actually i found that having a tranny shop install them is cheaper than buying the tool, and ill know they are done right. im going there to get my case tanked anyway.
