Fellow V8 Board members: Bought a '72 Skylark a few months ago. Car is now in shop getting new rear end set up. While car is up in the air, it was observed that the passenger side of the transmission crossmember is not secure. Driver's side of crossmember has a rubber piece resting on frame, crossmember is sitting on the rubber, and some kind of metal piece sits on top of crossmember. That "sandwich" is tied together and secured with two bolts. However, the top metal piece is missing from the passenger side; the crossmember is just resting on the frame, unsecure. What is the name of the piece of metal which is missing from the passenger side and is that piece readily available? Would this be a piece that is found on, and is common to, the "64-'72 GM "A" body cars? Thanks, Ed
you can find that piece on 70-72 monte carlo's. Was considered kind of a "luxury" item as it provided further insulation from vibrations... One thing you can do is just get rid of the insulation rubber and bracket on both sides and just bolt it to the frame, your trans mount will provide enought insulation from vibration
Check this thread. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=167233&highlight=transmission+mount post 4 has some pics. I am pretty sure you can get these parts aftermarket.
You can get the rubber pieces and the metal brackets here: http://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/skylark.asp http://www.v8buick.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=120403&d=1219592956 http://www.v8buick.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=120404&d=1219592956
Yes it is the crossmember to frame brackets. That has to be the item. You say the parts place has it? I'll check with them... Thanks for the photos and info Ed
Damn you later model guys have all the luxuries!!!! Rubber insulators!?!? What kind of new fangled inventions are you guys gonna come up with next? Some kind of fancy electric ignition system? Ha.
Just wondering if you have a crossmember for a 67 buick skylark (300 engine with powerglide trans.) or if you know anyone who does
