how can i tell what trans is in my 61 buick hearse made from an electra. it has a 401 4 barrel in it. it has an automatic trans with the following order p n d l r . the trans was slipping bad and wouldn't shift so i towed it with the driveshaft in place. anyhow i need to get it rebuilt. also would like to know of any performace upgrades for it. also what could be put in its place, and how hard it would be. i have huge brakes front and back they are power drums and at least 12 inches or bigger. is there any advantage to an upgrade to front disc, since these are so big and they are power the rear end looks simular to a 9"ford im told its a semi floating hypoid rear end if so how strong is it in comparison to a 9" ford or 10 or 12 bolt gm. i'm also looking for good steel rims with big hub holes. my rims have enlarged holes from the left hand threads on the nuts they were overtightened and the y damaged the rim since they were tighten when they thought it was being loosened. my goal is to get my gas tank rebuilt, replace my dyna flow or turbine drive or what ever it is. and get some new gas lines to the tank from the pump and fix the breaks thanks chris
