'71buickg.s. a dark and stormy night..

My mom walks in the room and tells me to go look under the skylark, there is a pink liquid under it... i ask her if its pink or red, becuase if it's red the tranny is $%##$ and she tells me to just go look.. i walk over to it, and it looks like a puddle of blood uner the driver side front tire! What could have happened to it? it hasnt been driven since the day after we bought it!

sorry this is in the wrong forum, nobody is ever in the tranny section it seems...

  5. Looks like one of your lines to the cooler went south. I had a similar experiance with a former Ford I owned- came out of class to a huge pile of ATF.

Judging by your last photo, it appears as if the tailshaft seal is leaking. I didn't see any oil on the pan.:bglasses:

Hi, If car has been siting over winter, trans fluid in the converter leaked past front seal in trans. Mine did same thing over winter. Just start it &take for a ride, Check fluid level & refill. Should be OK. JOE  :)

    Josh,

I agree with Joe...converter drains down and overfills the transmission. Just start the car every few weeks when it not being driven and all will be fine.

You do need to check your tranny fluid level when you fire up the car. Make sure you're at operating temp, too.

i believe it was a daily driver, until we got it, it hasnt been driven in about 3.. maybe 4 weeks.. it wont start.. you'll see why in the tranny section.. neutral saftey switch problems.. blown fuses.. ahh such a mess

also.. im pretty sure thats the exhaust in the pic.. not the driveshaft

Just kidding, Gotta go where the traffic on the board is.
It looks like it's coming down the front of the tranny by the converter. Converters are only $2.95 at Year One's website!!!

I agree with the others on the front pump seal leaking due to the torque convertor overfilling the transmission.

I looked at your post in the Trans section Josh, and Im thinking with that transmission being rebuilt a year ago, that the column shift lever to the transmission might need adjustment. You just loosen the bolt that secures the collar to the shift rod and adjust it accordingly. (up or down as needed)

Now that Ive over-analyzed the pics, it appears it is coming from the rear of transmission. Hard to say without seeing it up close. Is the fluid dripping out of the tailshaft seal (where driveshaft and tranny meet) or is fluid dripping off the transmission dust shield?

I went out and looked earlier before i went out, im pretty sure its the driveshaft seal, when i touched the seal, nothing came off of it, but when i touched the driveshaft right at the seal, trannyfluid dripped all over my hand

TH350's are notorious leakers in my opinion. Have 2 leaking in my garage at the moment.
Sometimes they leak from the dipstick seal. When they sit, the fluid level increase as the convertor drains. If the seal is marginal on the dipstick, it comes right out.
The back can be the rear seal or the speedo housing seals. The little seal that rides on the gear will harden and the cut a groove in the plastic gear. It will then pour out of the cable connection.
Looks like you need to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from and go from there.

Had this kind of bad leak on my '70 TH400, turned out to be the speedo cable area. Just like Mark said
