The only thing holding the tranny in the car is the shaft. The tranny bolts are still bolted to the broken part of the tranny, but you can see all the way around the torque convertor to the underbody. The first 1/3 is missing, well it was spread all over the track.

The starter is broken off the block with the block ears still bolted to it. The motor and tranny have to come out.

I had the whole track crew out with ambulance too. They thought I crashed into the wall. I remembered that when something goes wrong, to pull off to the side and not oil down the track.

Anybody have a spare tranny? Jerry?

And I was testing the car for the final day of racing at the track before the ET finals. Darn, Darn.

I wonder why it blew both valve cover caps off? I found both of them on the headers.

Back when I pitted for my uncle (he raced them small alcohol powered slingshots- I drove the recovery truck for him) he had, if I recall correctly, a crankcase pressure problem one day, and for some reason, it blew the dipstick out of the transmission...track management was a bit mad about the tranny fluid spewing everywhere.
He was an is a licensed A&P mechanic as well as being obsessed with things that go fast, and he was scratching his head at why this happened.

If nothing else, somehow, someway fab up a mid-plate before you put it back togother.
This item would cure 99% of the trans-case failures that guys with A-body's encounter.

Also,On the flip side, when there is possibility of oiling the track, just be very careful about pulling over to the side.
Most tracks are very slippery out of the groove and you don't want to bang up you car trying to save the track crew some clean up.......Some food for thought.

Good luck in the Bracket Finals.

I have a 70 BA coded T400 in the parts for sale section.

I am sure shipping to Washington would be killer though.

That makes sense on the mid-plate. Looking at it more closely, it took out the whole block where the starter mount to. If all of the mounting places on the block are gone, where would the starter mount to?

I agree with you on the pulling over, no reason to take out the fenders, door and quarter. Or worse, roll the thing.

I have seen guys drive all the way down the track though lately and they knew they were broke, but just kept going. Luckily my break happened around the 60ft mark and I just coasted. Looking back in the mirror all I saw was smoke, and heard metal pieces falling out...............:ball:

Time to pull it apart and find out what failed.

    Wow Rick!

I guess things were going too well for too long! Have you tried calling Blood to see if they could get one together quickly for you?

I guess it doesn't matter if your block is broken too though.

That must have been quite a pow, luckily nothing got sideways and upside down.

That just sounds like one hell of a mess.

Steve D., The flexplate is an SFI rated one, and looks brand new still. It is starting to look like the drum in the tranny broke. But will have to wait and see when it comes out. I didn't have enough time to put another motor in today anyway.

I will try and post some pictures later tonight. Right now its off to the track to get my 30 points at the least, and cross my fingers to have the other guy redlight. The car I am going to use, won't get faster than 13.99 :Dou:

It was loud, and the bang knocked the console center cover to off. I felt it in the floorboard, but I can't see any damage to the underbody. Still in shock about what happened.
