Does anyone know if the quick ratio steering gear box off of a '79 TA work on an A body? I have one I got a few years ago, but have not tried it. I know most guys will use one from a GN, 442, or Monte SS. Thanks, Mike
IT WILL WORK JUST FINE AFTER YOU CHANGE THE PITMAN ARM I HAVE HAD THE SAME BOX ON MY 69 GS400 CONVERT FOR 20 YEARS  THEY SAY IT HAS REDUCED TURNING RADIUS uzzled: BUT THAT HAS NEVER BEEN A PROBLEM AT ALL I HAVE OVER 300,000 MILES ON MY CAR KEN IT IT HAS INVERT FLAIR HOSE FITTINGS EVEN BETTER MOST CHEV STYLE STEERING BOXES HAVE THE O RING SEALS AND YOU NEED A CONVRSION FITTING OR NEW HOSES :TU:
go to Georges site....its got info on the ss monti gear box and also some good spring info.... http://www.buickperformance.com/page1.htm
Thanks Ken, Did the TA box work better than the stock box? I am not building a road race car, but it would be nice to "tighten" the Buick up some. I have been looking aorund for a few years for the steering box used in the Monte SS and have not been able to find one. Mike
Mike the differance is fantastic combined with a trans am ( 1 1/4" ) front bar and a stock rear bar the car handles like a dream and drives 1000% better Ken
I did the T/A steering box swap on my Malibu years ago, and it and the sway bars absolutely transformed the car. I autocrossed it, and instead of flailing away at the steering wheel to get it to turn, you can flick the wheel and get instant results. It's only 2.2 turns, lock to lock I believe. John C
Thanks Ken and John, I have added the 1.25" sway bar and have a stock rear sway bar that I am going to use also. That is good news! I can't wait to get this thing together and drive it. It has not been driven in about 4-5 years. Should be a whole new animal :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: Mike
