Trailer hitch ideas??

I figured maybe the chassis board would be a good place to talk about trailer hitches. I would like to put one on my 67wildcat. Not for heavy towing jobs, or dump runs, but maybe throw some kayaks in the trailer, or bring a trailer to a swap meet, or bring my drums to a local gig, or even tow one of my smaller vintage boats behind it. Anyway, has anyone ever put a trailer hitch on a 67 wildcat before? Is there a kit I can buy or should I just start drawing up my own. I don't want it to be an obnoxious big bulky hitch, or one of those 60s style bumper mounted hitches, but just something simple and functional. Can I make it happen?

Either vintage or custom . . . (Re: Trailer hitch ideas??)

    Dear ozamecnik and V-8 Buick locomotive engineer wannabees, . . . .

Unfortunately, automobiles built in the 1960s are way below the radar of anyone making hitch kits today. You might find a kit that is close enough that you can adapt it. I got the suggestion of looking at compact pickup tricks as a starting point. Ultimately I had a custom receiver hitch built for my trusty 1965 Buick Special wagon. I have Airstream inclinations, so I'm looking to tow more than you have in mind, but I don't think you'll have have much more luck than I did. It turned out that the guy installing the exhaust on my wagon also did hitches, so that's what I went with. There are shops in most cities that handle custom hitches, so you might check around.

The other option is getting hold of a hitch built for your 1967. People part out cars like this and there were plenty of hitches built for these cars in their day. You might put an entry in the parts wanted topic and see if someone has what you want lying around.

    Hope that's some help.

    Cheers, Edouard :beer
