Is this common? I found it in a junk yard in AZ last week.Car is a 71 Riv,no GS emblems, but had a TR code on the block

TR is correct for a 71 Riv. A 71 GS Riv would be coded TA.

IF the Riv got a stage 1 in 71, it would have a TS code then, right?:Do No:

    Just wondering...but I think I have heard that before.

71 Rivs came with two codes only. TA & TR.

TA is rated 25 more hp than TR. 335 vs 310.

TS (GS Stage 1 only) was rated at 345 hp.

Safe to say (IMHO) the Riv TA motor is a Stage 1 or at least had Stage 1 heads.

Time for a Riv guy to chime in here and give us the lowdown.

71-72 Riviera's with the GS package used a 455 with bigger valves and a hotter cam than a standard 455, but not as hot as a GS Stage 1 455. They also came with 3.42 positraction. The factory pics show a 71 Riviera GS air cleaner has a slightly bigger air cleaner snorkel.

I thought I heard some TS blocks in Riv's?

Rumor, fact, or fiction?:Do No: Or maybe it was a bigger car?
