Torque Converter Markings

    What do these markings mean, and did they come stock?

    the 4's go completely around the converter.

    Looks like someone was bored and bought a new "4" stamp. Never ever seen that on a TC.

    they look way too precise to be done by hand, although i could be wrong.

    anything i could check for that would show us that this is or isnt the stock TC?

    Looks like a stocker to me. I've seen the "number 4" stampings in two pictures in Ron Sessions' TH400 book.

    I'm wondering if the stampings have anything to do with the factory balance indication...does the number change in the area where the balance pad is welded on (if the converter has one)? Perhaps it was some sort of indicator for the operator to know how much weight to add & where.

    Another thing is the hand-written stuff in white. Any chance this converter was rebuilt? It does look pretty clean.

    they are 4's all the way around

    the torque converter might have been rebuilt when the tranny was, not sure though
