Well the great twist was slow process, untill teh windsheild spider webbed, the torque arm and driveshaft were ripped out, and the shocks snapped off. it was quite the noise when that happened. it actually bent the control arms, and ripped their mounts right out of the frame. Alot of parts fell victim to the torque. I have no after pictures, bu here is a before. you can notice a few things, like I had no room for headers. and I had to rip out the AC. the car used to flex the strut towers so badly, that the hood unlatched on me. not to mention how bad the alignment was after that. it was worth it though. heres a page with my cars info:

    I miss that car

If anyone wants to see a 'Cool' 200+mph run by Vintage Air's '53 Stude - click here.:bglasses:

There's a video right up at the top.

219MPH WITH the air on...of course!! Almost Buick like!!:Brow: It's got a 705" 'mild' BBC engine in it - excellent body style for Bonneville!! :TU:

Great replies guys:TU: Reason im asking is I want to try to do this in the future and was wondering what kind of gear ratios engine size tires etc... The fastest i drove an F-body was 155 MPH It handled pretty good but it was one of those once in a lifetime no one on the road freshly paved interstate 5 days. I wonder what kind of stress an extra 40 would do to the car. At 135 it opened wide up and just kept going. The car fely like it dropped down a few inches from the downforce.

    Ivan,

You could start off slow by shooting for the 130mph club at Bonneville or the flat track in Cali. Move on up as you learn from those who've been there awhile. If I ever do the 200 4R thing, I'll be scootin' down the street to Bonneville to give it a shot.

Talked to a guy in Wendover a couple years ago who'd just the day before earned his 300mph club patch. Crazy buggers but they do have perma-grin.

    Well I think I have a new project soon. Maybe a 66-69 Riv @ 200MPH

There you go. If it's good enough for King Petty, it must be good enough for the rest of us!

In my old '69 with 2.56 geared rear end I got 90 mph at 3000 rpm
and top end is hard to say because the speedo needle would disapear into the right side of the dash.

Judging by the way I used to regularly slaughter crotch rockets I always gussed my top speed as about 145.

This car was a great freeway burner but did have some problems right off the line. Engine details below.

The 3.36 posi was added towards the end of my time with the car and to be perfectly honest I liked the car better with the 2.56 rear.

The acceleration off the line was better but was quite detrimental to the rear tires, Besides I had gotten kind of used to the 90 mph cruising speed.:Brow:

I have, forever, wanted to build a Buick powered ORR car... but you must be rich to even compete.

There is a video of a Regal (I believe its a turbo 3.8/4.1) built for ORR going to about 180mph... I absolutely love it.

In my opinion, that is one of the best "trends" in modifying a car. I am very, VERY tempted to follow those lines. I know its a MOPAR, but c'mon... its badass!

That car was built to run 180 in Open Road Racing... they were also building a 200mph Road Runner.

Would the aero treatment like the Dodge Daytonas had be of any help?

Maybe if we add some Dodge parts the 82-92 F body might get over 200mph much easier.

I love the line in the pic, it look so right even though you know its wrong.

It could almost pass for the 90's version.

I would do it to my Bird but I would knock the wing off at every drive through.

God loves a Buick but I afraid even a KB HEMI is a tad out of the 455's range. I would love to own a sweet Dodge one day but even more a sweet Dodge with a KB HEMI under the hood.

I keep telling my Uncle that he needs to stop useing them chevy motors in his boat and get some dual KB HEMI's.

That car there actually has a well built 440... it made 505hp on the dyno, but I think it'd take more than that to push an A-body Buick to 180 and I think the engine may make more than that really...maybe a bad day on the dyno?... Im willing to bet that any of the engine builders here would be up to the challenge of building a beast to run on pump gas at 5500-6000rpm for a couple hours to hit a top speed of at least 180... for a price entirely out of my range.

I don't want to ostersize myself with you fine Buick folk but, there are better things to try 200mph in. http://www.devek.net/index.php?page=nfo_cars_whitecar

How about a street driven car on pump gas? I love my new GS but I run my 928 over 140 every week on my way home from work. It is "one finger on the wheel" work in that car. It ran a 13.8 @ 102, tops out at 175 and makes short work out of anything in the twisties. Plus, I spent less on the Porsche than a well restored GS goes for. The GS starts getting scary above 90 by comparison. :bglasses:

We know there are easier ways to get there... I think its the fun of doing it with the 455

I have a regular old Skylark. The only scary thing about doing 115 was I didn't realize I was going that fast (I was smoking a 5.0 Mustang at the time). When I looked at the speedo I decided to slow down; besides, the Mustang was probably tired of seeing my bumper.

It was quite smooth; more so than my 74 Camaro was @ 105.

BTW, nice Porsche. I'm not a huge Porsche fan, but the 928 is one of the styles I like.
