I was setting up my GS for the Boise car show today and in roles the Tommy IVO 4 engine nail head drag car. I have close up access to the car so if anyone wants specific picures let me know. The car will be on display for the next 4 days. Dwane
Awesome...what an opportunity. I think Tommy's 4 Nailhead dragster is a fascinating piece of art. Just enjoy it........any close up photos would be a bonus.
Somewhere around here I've got a copy of Hot Rod magazine from the early 60's with the Tommy Ivo 4 engine car on the cover and article showing alot of the details. I'll have to see if I can find it. The one unique thing I do remember was it was 4 wheel drive, with 2 engines on one side driving the rear wheels and the other 2 engines on the other side driving the front wheels.
I met tommy Ivo in the mid 70's on our way to Atlanta dragway from the Army post at fort Gordon GA. We stopped in a place called the Mayflower Inn for a burger. Up pulls this huge rig with a trailer with plexi glass sides and that multi engine car in the back sititng at an angle. I at first didn't think it was a real car but upon inspection and seeing the NHRA logo and all I got real interested. Me and my fellow drag racing grunts spoke with Tommy for about an hour. He was a very cool dude man ! This was back in the flower power days. I of course was a Ford guy then . But now I have been reformed!
Please take HUNDREDS of pics!!!!!!!! YIPPPPEEEEEE!!!!!!!:TU: I think I saw that one or maybe it was just a dual N.H. at Don Garlits museum.:beer
Here are a few pictures, I will take more tomorrow. Tommy was actually there with the car today. The first thing that stood out for me was that the engine(s) paint looks more like chevey orange than Buick red. Never the less it si awesome and to run fuel injection on those engines back then is just awesome.
Dwane if you get a chance to talk with Tommy do it he is a real nice guy. He really loves the old drag race era,and is quite the showman. The car in your post is the WagonMaster, which has the Showboat inside. Here are to of Ivo and Fuller with the Showboat replica. John
gee, and to think I decided not to come over because there was snow most of the way and it would over Saturday back Sunday. Had I known Ivo would be with the car...... Damn, I really gotta stop talking myself out of doing things, but I hate driving....
Ivo is a legend... It's too bad he isn't a member of the forum... would be neat having him post threads about the builds of his cars.
Is he selling any merchandise that could be autographed ray: I would be very interested. Specially if it could be made out to "DugSin", :dollar: in hand for your service.
Do you live in California? I see him every year in Oct. at the California Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield. He will sign anything you like there. He is very nice to talk with and does sell t-shirts and gives out signed photos.
A few weeks ago he was in St Louis and I was lucky enough to get a signed poster, a picture of us standing together and talk to him for 7 or 8 min.:TU: It was coool:beers2:
