To vinyl or Not to Vinyl? That is the question!

Very torn between doing a black vinyl roof on my 72. I originally wanted to, but since looking at many pictures the non-vinyl roof has a more "muscle car" feel to it... But the Vinyl has a more "classy" look...........

    Please lend your opinion!

(I know I posted in "interior" but I couldnt find "exterior city") :blast:

I think it all depends on what color the car is. I've never been a big fan of vinyl tops on musclecars in general, yet some look too plain without one. A `68-`72 Nova is a good example. Those cars are just dull looking without a vinyl top. I hate them an pretty much all Chevelles and GTOs but as strange as it may seem, even though they are all A-bodies, a vinyl top seems to look good on a lot of the Buick and Olds cars. But again, it all depends on the color of the car.

I like the vinyl tops,I guess that I am or I'm getting old but I like them.Either way,it is your car, build it the way that you want.

I am going to paint it, a medium to dark blue. Metallic. Here are some examples in that range. (my vinyl would be black)

TODD'S 67 Time for another Buick!

When I was younger, I never really liked the vinyls tops. I do like em now! It gives the car the look of a convertible in a way. The blue and black top example you posted looks great! I will be putting a black vinyl top back on my 67 GS but still not sure what color to do the body??? Maybe medium blue or charcoal gray. It's up to you though.

I personally like vinyl, my 67 did not have one and I found the trim and put it on, The 66-67 roof and sail panels look so much better with a top.
    Thanks Mel

As far as I am concerned, vinyl tops are great, as long as they go up and down, and stow under a boot behind the back seat.

Seriously though, IMHO a vinyl top ruins the styling of most cars. One exception is the 69-72 Pontiac Grand Prix. They just don't seem right without one.
