This really has nothing to do with the Buick 455 but I figured that if I was to ask anyone about what kind of tires and rims they use on their drag cars I would find my answer here. By now the question is clear, who has the best drag tires and rims? Thanks Steve
I'm using a set of 12 year old Weld Draglites. The latest and greatest Welds are $375.00 apiece for the rears and for that price, they can keep'em. Tire-wise, I'm using Goodyear 33x14.5 "High growth" slicks which are working great, but I've used Hoosiers and Phoenix tires as well with great results also. I don't believe any of them hooked any better than the others, it seems some tires lose their stickiness sooner or in some cases they wear out sooner. Generally speaking, I think if you get 75 runs out of a set of slicks, you're ahead of the game and it's a good idea to replace them. Unless the season's almost over and you want to wait til Spring to buy new tires. I've done that and wound up with a hundred runs on a set, but they got inconsistent hook towards the end. Hope this helps.
You should always replace the tires and the start of the season. At the local drag race event one of the big names in our area with a Chevy Monza blew his tires and damaged the rims very badly. In the pits he mentioned that it was only the second run on both. Thats about a 1500 dollar waste. Steve
I run 15x10 Weld draglites with 29x10.5 M/T Drag ET's. I will be going to 15x12 Bogart's with the same or smaller tire. Depends on the rules when I get back.
