I'm looking at a set of rims and tires on ebay. They are 15 x 8s with P205/50 tires. The problem is that I think the tires may be too low profile for my '66 Skylark. Can anyone tell me the height and width of these tires in inches or is there a site that I could get this info from? The auction ends in a few hours.

    Thanks!

mike, it all depend on the off set as far a good size, that '67 had 235 60 15 on it and that looked too small for me, i just put a pair of 275 60 15 on the back of my '69

I know this will make me sound stupid but...does the 50 or 60 refer to the height and the 205 or whatever refer to the width?

I believe you are correct about the width (in MM), but the 50 or 60 refers to the "aspect ratio" whatever that means.

Here's a site that makes the conversions for you....
    Here

I don't know how accurate it is though :Do No:

You can also go to summit or jegs or even tirerack and look up the numbers there. I think they give dimensions for reference too.

i alway thought that "50" or "60" was the width and the "205" or "235 was the side wall

  6. That will be kind of a narrow, low profile tire. I wouldn't think it would fill the wheel well very well.

I'm 99.99% sure that the "245" refers to the width in MM (But I don't know what width it refers to... either side wall or tread width.... or some where inbetween?)

"50" & "60" definately refer to the height, but it's not a direct measurement. It's some type of ratio compared to the width.

"245" is the width in mm as Rick stated. The "series" is the aspect ratio, the % of the height to the width. A "245/60" tire would be 245 mm wide and the size of the side wall would be 60% of 245, or 147 mm. a 255/50 would have a sidewall height of 50% of 255 or about 127.5 mm.

Alright, so if that's the case, 205/50R -15s are probably way too small for a '66 Skylark.

    Thanks guys!
