I JUST BOUGHT A SET OF 14X6 BUICK RALLEYS AND WAS HOPING SOMEONE CAN TELL ME WHAT IS THE WIDEST TIRE I CAN GET IN THE REAR AND FRONT WITHOUT SCRAPING. THE SUSPENSION HAS SEEN NO UPGRADES AND I HAVE NO HISTORY ON THE SPRINGS OR SHOCKS. MY CAR IS A 69 SKYLARK CONVERTIBLE THAT IS IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING A 455 ENGINE WITH A 4BBL CARB AND MANIFOLD SET. ANY INFO WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED!!!!!

  2. Victor, the 14x6 rim won't hold the widest tire you can fit in the rear. Mfgr recommendations say 225 is max on a 6" rim, but I run 235's on mine, and some guys say 245's work fine too, on a 6" rim. On the front, I think 245's are about as wide as you can fit cleanly. I'm not sure what the widest tire is that will fit, but I'm pretty sure you need a different backspacing than factory rims have. There are plenty of threads on the board on this subject, if you use the search function you should have no trouble finding lots of info about it.

THANKS FOR THE INFO...REGARDING SPACING, DO YOU MEAN I WILL NEED SPACERS? IF SO, WHERE CAN I PURCHASE SOME AND WHAT MEARSUREMENT WILL I NEED? DO YOU RUN 235'S ALL AROUND YOU CAR? ARE THEY 235/60'S?? ONCE AGAIN, I THANK YOU FOR YOUR INFO.

  5. I currently have 235 60's all around, on 14x6 rims. I "believe" you can run up to a 295 on the rear, on a wider rim though, but needing a custom backspaced rim, or else you would have tire rub problems on the lip of the wheel well. Your backspace is the distance measured from the flat mounting surface on the backside of the rim, outward to a line even with the back edge of the lip of the rim. For instance if you ordered repro 15x8 or 15x10 rims from an aftermarket wheel company, they would want to know what backspacing you needed.

If I haven't explained the backspacing measurement clearly, maybe someone else can put it in different terms.

Your options are very limited with 14's. I think the most tire you will be able to find in a 60 is a 245. See this thread here
