Looking to come into the 21st century, what timing light are you guys using and would recommend? Kerry
I've got 3 and my favorite is Heathkit I made 45 years ago! Has adjustable brightness...I crank it up about 3/4 and way brighter than any others I have ever used. It saw in instructions not to turn up over half way as it will shorten bulb life but I don't use it daily so it will prob outlast me....
If you have msd type ignition these digital timing lights don't play well with. I have an action that is digital display and dial back. Seems to read msd correctly......but if you snap rev the motor the light lags behind. I had an old craftsman dial back b4 I left it at the track one day on the table and it grew legs. I also have a regular light no dial back and have verified it read the same on my msd as my digital dial back. This is a basic tool so no need to spend tons....mine does dial back, rpm, 4 and 2 stroke
I have a Innova 5568 pro timing light , I like it. Did have an issue with it, the light went out, called up Innova, sent it to them and they sent me a new one no questions asked. I'm happy with the light and the customer service. Pretty sure I got it from amazon.
Try to get one with a dial back timing. Really helpful. I have a Mac one but there are other good brands out there
I have 3 timing lights, one really old standard Craftsman, a less old dial back Craftsman, and a Snap On. All 3 seem to have no problem with my MSD, and they all agree.
I just bought the Innova 5568 dialback timing light based on several recommendations here. Works really well for not much money. I used it on an HEI no problem. Runs about $105.
Lots of good candidates. I've had my Craftsman dial back for 40 years and it works and looks like new. No matter what brand, spend the extra and make sure it has the dial back feature. You will be surprised at just how useful that feature is.
