Hey you Buick gurus, I have a timing issue if you could help...

I have a '73 350 4bbl stock with points (please son't say the answer is electronic ignition). I went to set the timing to 4 degrees below TDC (stock) and I couldn't see the mark. After some trial and error (points and advance) I managed to get the mark to appear somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 degrees. The engine currently idles a little rough, when i give it a little gas, it sputters a bit, medium throttle is pretty smooth twith the occasional small miss, and full throttle sputters a good bit without the pickup I know is available. The engine has about 137K miles, presumable without a rebuild. The only thing I can consider is the timing chain. If anybody has any other suggestions (I checked the vacuum, fuel/air, etc) please school me so I can go :Dou: !!!

    Thanks for your time!

If you couldn't see the timing mark at first but you turned the dis. a ways and could see it high on the timing tab than your wires are not correct on the dis. cap. Having your wires off by one will give you a miss like you describe and the engine will still run. Check the wiring to make sure it is correct.
