Question for the day: Can a tilt column with column shift for a 66 skylark be converted to a floor shift column?

I have a floor shift column, and am about to buy the tilt one if I can make it into a floor shift column with the tilt feature.

    I hope this makes sense??

    Thanks

Hope this ansewrs your question: Similar year setup columns will interchange; i/e 64-67 A body tilt with column-shift swaps out with 64-67 A body standard with floor shift; 68 A body cars are kind of unique; ignition on dash, but later style body; 69-72 A body cars interchange much the same way.
As far as taking apart a standard column with floor shift and changing pieces and parts over to a tilt column with column shift, I don't think that is gonna happen= the basic mechanism for the actual shifting is one of the key assemblies that don't interchange. Upper parts closer to the steering wheel do, but each "family" of main column parts have specific parts that don't.
Look in a Mitchell or Motor manual in the steering section, and you get the picture.
    Did this help?

I'll get out my owners manual and look for the differences you mentioned.

I know it takes different turn signal flasher, but I was really hopeing the steel column that makes the main difference between a floor shift and a column shift (at least cosmetically) would interchange.

You may have saved me some $$ and headaches.

    Thanks

    Minor corrections.
64-66 interchange. 67 does not,(frst year for collapsable columns and they mount totally dfferent, and they are larger in diameter)
64-66 will fit and function from column shift to floor shift but will have the shift flange showing. (This is a good place to put a tach, and help hide the flange)
    67 may fit 68 I don't know that.
Tilt columns from these years are dificult to take apart and re-assemble, if you wanted to make the automatic look like a standard floor shift tilt. If you wanted to do the "body work" and grind the flange off, fill the hole, paint the column, that could work, but again not too easy.
There are also differences in the lower flange on the 64-66 columns. The GS cars, 65&66, AND ALL the tilt columns have a removable lower flange. The non GS and non tilt columns have a welded on lower flange. The columns interchange here also, but the flange "is what it is", you can't take the welded flange off and use it on the bolt on columns. You will need the bolt on flange for any 64-66 tilt column.
Call me if you are confused by my rambling post, 740-533-0240.

Ok, what year is this, and will it fit a non-GS 66 skylark?

It's advertised as a 66 or 67 skylark tilt column.

    Thanks

    It will not fit.
    I don't know what a 68 column looks like.
What I do know is, This looks just like a 67 column.
    And it will not fit.
Of course with a big enough hammer and a good bit of fabrication it could be made to fit, but it is not a direct bolt in deal.
As mentioned, 64-66 A bodies will all fit. There are some differences in the shift indicator in some A bodies. Some have the shift indicator on the column (like a 67-72 Chevy pick up) and some, like Buick and Olds (which are ones I do know about) are in the dash.
