I installed a floor shift tilt column in my 1971 gs that i purchased on here.It fit great the only issue that i have , is the were the end of the column meets the steering shaft the tilt column doesn't have the same amount of shaft protruding into the steering shaft . hence i cannot install the bolt to tighten down the knuckle.is there a different knuckle assembly for a tilt column. thank todd

The column has been bumped on the splined end resulting in the lwr shaft sliding up on the above plastic pinned shaft. May have happened in shipping, as such a problem is very common. Most likely, column will have to be disassembled to repair. I have a "column stretcher" to repair collapsed '67-68 screen wire column tubes, but have never tried to fashion a similiar device for shafts while still in a tilt colmun. Without being able to propperly clamp onto the spline end, believe any such attempts would prove futile.

That is a good tip. Most people do not know this. Also maybe you can attach your old shaft to new column if collapse is in lower section. Also is car a original 455? Lower shaft is different on a 455 car than a 350. Do noit make mistake and use 350 part if you have 455. People in the know will pick this out.
