More grief from the tilt column of woe…….. I need this spring. Someone has been here before me and lost the rack preload spring. They twitched a bit of wire around where the spring sits.

Since it was working OK, I left it there. Now I find the sector ( on the end of the ign key cylinder is jumping out from the switch actuator rack. I suspect it is caused by a combination of
    1) the missing preload spring.
    2) The position of the ignition switch is wrong, allowing the key, and thus the sector to over rotate and jump out of the switch actuator rack.

I’m confused as to what spring will do the job- from what I’ve found online,
the spring in the tilt columns differs from the non tilt ones.

So, can anyone tell me what spring I should be using, and best vendor. I found this one for a ’79 ElCamino. Post to Australia was insane so I haven’t ordered it yet.

Will this one fit my ’69 Skylark,? It’s a column shift View attachment 257490 automatic.

I just ordered a new spring and sector gear for my '71 tilt column. Haven't put them in yet. Mine was/is doing the same thing but I'm pretty sure it is because the sector gear is worn/broken. If I'm not real careful when I turn the key to start, it will jump a tooth and then I have to pull the column apart to get it reset so I can get the key out.

You might want to check the gear and make sure it is still OK and is the right one. The different sector gears have different number of teeth. I think I ordered the right parts for a '71 tilt column, I'll find out soon. I ordered mine from YearOne and I think the shipping was almost as much as the parts and that's in the US.
