The beater had just a slam wore out ignition key. It was one of those aftermarket aluminum jobs to boot. Someone swapped out the trunk lock years ago with an aftermarket cylinder and likely discarded or lost the original key so I had no key for the glove box. Seems after 40+ years, all sorts of things happen with key and locks on these cars. One thing I cant stand is non original keys or different keys for the ignition/doors and trunk/ glove. Its a pet peeve.

I use Walt from Wolf Security in Macon Georgia. I started using him after buying something from him on Ebay. Now I just email him what I want and he sends it USPS Priority. Great guy, reasonably priced and knows his stuff.

The original key codes were hand written on the factory warranty paperwork back in 1970. So I emailed him the codes and ordered 2 sets of GM "Mark of Excellence" keys and new trunk lock keyed to the original code. Came in the mail yesterday and couldn't be happier. Nothing like factory keys and now I can lock the glove! In the past when I didn't have the code, I just took a picture of the key and emailed it to him.

He's also redone the keys and locks in the Aquamist car. Funny story about the Aquamist car. When I ordered a new trunk lock, I didn't realize it was aftermarket. I just wanted a new trunk key. He emailed me back and asked if that key worked the glove as it wasn't a 1970 Buick code. Sure as s...t, it didn't! Didnt even know. I took out the glove box lock and retrieved the stamped code and he cut 2 keys and made a corresponding lock for me.

Next up is going to be the convertible which I have no door keys for- someone must of replaced the ignition lock cylinder at some point and didn't think to keep the old keys to use in the doors. Im also going to order new keys for the Riviera and the black car, both of which have hardware store replacements.

So if anyone needs any locksmith work, email Walt at keyman1@windstream.net .

Jason, Ed Peter in our Notheast GS/ GN Club does locks & has all the GM stuff. He will be at the holiday party & I'm sure he can knock it right out for you or at the spring meeting. He did all the locks with 3 sets of keys for the Stage 1 car for $60 & that was with him taking the door panels off & repairing glove box lock cover

Good to know John. I didn't know we had someone in the chapter doing locks.
