In all honesty, I don't see that happening. Guys are still looking for TPI's and LT1's to put in all sorts of projects. I don't think the LSx engine family has even peaked yet. Holley just came out with a very extensive collection of intakes for them. Tons of other aftermarket parts keep coming out every year. More and more of these engines are showing up in the junkyards. Even then, it's mostly 4.8's and 5.3's. The 6.0L has been tough to find on the cheap. (thankfully, I've got one of each). The LS engines are arguably one of, if not the best engine family GM has ever come out with. Just look at the Sept. issue of Hot Rod and see how much power they got out of that little 4.8 with 26lbs of boost......1203HP!! That was ported heads, a decent cam, a good intake LSXR and a pair of cheap turbos. The bottom end was absolutely stock, with the exception of opening up the top ring gap to .026". Would it be any worse to put an LSx engine in a 55 Buick, than it would be to put a Nailhead in a 32 Ford? Of course not. Having said that...a 425 Nailhead in the OP's 55 is an excellent choice. Great power and killer old school looks!!:beers2: Personally, I'd paint the engine Buick Red. I think it looks better and would match the rims. Look forward to seeing progress on the car.:3gears:
Not quite done with my '50 on a '65 Wildcat chassis, but it's done enough to drive it...Last night at a local cruise(sponsored by a Corvette club) people were literally standing in line to "see what that motor is". The 401 nail with Offy covers and a "batwing" breather looks awesome(if I do say so myself).
The LSx line is great and besides maybe mpg there are only so many improvements to be made, but I'd go with the built Nailhead.
I'd agree to go with the 425. It's stunning in the GS version with the alluminum valve covers chromed and the GS chromed air cleaner. Not to mention that it performs great. I've had two 66 GS Rivieras and one 67GS (430). And I like the 425 the best. Get a dual quad set up on it and it will be one of one.
